Tips For Maintaining Your Retractable Roof System

From your back patio to your pool area or a second-floor deck, there are several areas outside your home that will benefit from a retractable roof system. If you're considering investing in this aesthetically pleasing addition to your home's exterior or are the proud owner of a system, it is critical to learn how to properly maintain your retractable roof. Don't allow you investment to become unnecessarily damaged. Instead, here are a few tips to help you care for a retractable roof system like those from Apollo Opening Roof:

Keep the Awning Clean

Because your retractable roof system is outside, it is important to keep it clean. In addition to maintaining its visual appeal, cleaning your retractable roof will prevent wear and damage. Here are a few steps tips to help you clean your retractable roof:

  • Brush off the awning with a soft-bristled brush. In addition to cleaning off any dirt and debris before performing a more thorough cleaning, it's also vital to periodically clean off the awning to prevent buildup.
  • Grab your garden hose and rinse off the awning. This will help loosen any dirt that is left on the fabric or aluminum roof.
  • Create a mixture of warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Dampen a soft cloth with the soapy water and carefully wash off the awning, paying attention to remove any dirt or grime from the top. If you have a fabric awning, allow the soapy water to soak in for a few minutes.
  • Rinse off the awning with your hose. Wipe off any standing water and allow the awning to dry completely before retracting it.

In addition to this regular cleaning, it's important to also clean off the awning after a storm. Remove any loose branches, leaves, or anything laying on the awning.

Pay Attention to the Gasket

Your retractable roof features a gasket that requires cleaning at least two or three times per year. This will help prevent the gasket from becoming damaged and the rubber used to manufacture the piece from drying out.

Begin by wiping off the gasket with a microfiber cloth. Next, create a mixture of dish soap and water and wipe down the gasket with a separate clean cloth. Finally, rinse off the gasket and allow it to dry thoroughly. If the manufacturer recommends applying a lubricant, do so after the gasket is clean.

Your retractable roof system will provide you with decades of comfort if it is maintained properly. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact the manufacturer or dealer.
