Three Reasons To Raise The Thermostat Higher Your First Use

You just installed air conditioning in your home. Congratulations! Welcome to a life of comfort and bliss during those hot summer months. To thoroughly enjoy your new air conditioning, however, you need to avoid the mistake many first timers make, which is to lower the thermostat way too much. Yes, you want to test it out and finally live in a cool environment during the extreme temperatures summer presents, but it's important to be mindful and keep the settings at the highest setting possible. Here are three reasons it's important to do this:

  1. It Gets Too Cold: Many people make the mistake of thinking that turning the thermostat to the lowest setting is going to make the home colder, faster. However, this isn't the case at all. What is actually going to happen is that the air conditioner is going to run longer to get to that temperature. Once it reaches that setting, it is going to be too cold in your home to actually be comfortable, which just means that a ton of energy has been wasted.
  2. It Makes the AC Work Harder: Since the AC needs to be running longer to get to the lower setting, it means that the AC is going to be working harder than if you set it at a higher temperature so that it can turn off sooner. This is especially important to consider when you have a new AC system in your home. After all, you want your investment to last as long as possible, which won't be possible if the AC is working hard, thus running into problems a lot sooner than necessary.
  3. It Costs More: Paying more for your energy bill every month is not going to be worth running your AC to the point where it becomes too cold in your home. This is especially true after you have already spent a ton of money on having the AC installed in your home. Save yourself from future costs by keeping the thermostat at a higher temperature so that your home is comfortable while not costing you too much in energy costs at the end of every month.

The best way to utilize your new AC is to set the thermostat to 78 degrees, which is the best way to save on energy costs. However, you can lower it slightly during times when you are home while raising it more at night when it cools down and during times when you are not going to be home.
